Isabelle Mercier, French Canadian poker star

Isabelle Mercier, French Canadian poker star Isabelle Mercier has been a poker fan since she was quite young. As a kid she learned the rules of the game but never considered making poker her career until much later in life. Earning a bachelor’s in law at Université de Montréal followed by several months of practicing law indicates she had a much different path in mind for herself at first. She eventually relocated from Quebec to Paris to complete her master’s, during which time she worked as the manager of a poker room and made quite a stir among the community that led to two European Poker Awards nominations.

The rest of the world didn’t sit up and take note of Mercier until 2002 when she took second at the highly competitive Masters Classic of Poker €800 Hold’em tournament, netting more than $50,000 in the process. Two years later she took first place at the World Poker Tour Ladies’ Night for another $25,000, at which point she earned the nickname “No Mercy.”

Over the following years she placed tenth at the European Poker Tour Grand Final, made several WSOP money finishes, made it to the final table at the EPT, released an instructional poker DVD, as well as an autobiography entitled “Proffession: bluffeuse.” She also beat out Canadian superstar Daniel Negreanu to win a 2009 charity tournament to support Africa.

Mercier is currently working as a BetClic online poker consultant.
