Canada’s Xuan Liu takes 3rd at 2011 EPT San Remo

She may not be well known yet, but Xuan Liu’s third place finish at the EPT San Remo on Wednesday shows this Canadian is going places in the live poker world. Liu started the day with under two million chips, a big gap to cross considering the two leading players, Britain’s Rupert Elder and Germany’s Max Heinzelmann, had nearly eight million apiece. Nonetheless, Liu dove right in without fear to show the table what she’s made of.

Right off the bat Liu helped take out Roberto Spada, who had been in the lead just two days earlier. Even though he was the first one to leave the table, he still got nearly €82K for his efforts. Next up was Naples’ own Constantino Russo; Liu called and sent him home with €125K. When Russia’s Max Lykov, the winner of the 2010 EPT Caribbean Adventure, was defeated, Liu briefly took the lead from Rupert Elder.

Soon enough the table was reduced to just three players: Rupert Elder and Max Heinzelmann, who had been at the top from the start, and Canada’s Xuan Liu. Her luck didn’t hold up and she finished third for €360K, the biggest liver poker tournament cash of her career.
